This Sunday is the Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost and the gospel text

is John 6:56-69. With this reading we complete our series of readings from

John 6 which is often called The Bread of Life Discourse. Jesus encounters

not just confusion but now abandonment as he tells his hearers to
"eat my flesh."
